Counselling is somewhere you can say whatever you need to, out loud, without feeling judged. We all face change and loss in our lives and sometimes struggle to come to terms with our situation. We all find it hard to make decisions at times and it can be helpful to talk over problems and options with someone who cares but is not directly involved and is able to put their personal opinion to one side to help find the best outcome for you.
Life needs a purpose and we can lose sight of ours, especially in times of upheaval.
Our meaning can be challenged and sometimes we can be left feeling very lost or unsure of ourselves. Talking through how you feel and how you make sense of the world can help us to find the solutions to you enjoying life.
As a Humanistic Existential counsellor, I work to build a relationship with you where you feel safe and supported to explore any topic, even those that are uncomfortable and painful. Existing as a human is hard sometimes and talking about how you experience life with someone who is trained to listen can help.
I worked as a counsellor for a national mental health charity for many years and previously worked in a small charity with adults referred by their GP along with a college counselling service.
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I fully adhere to the Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. You can find out more about the BACP and their eithical guidelines for counsellors here:
I qualified as a Humanistic Existential Counsellor in 2012 through Cardiff and Vale College and the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB).
In 2013, I completed a Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling via CPCAB and a Foundation Degree in Counselling through the Open University.
I have undertaken much Continuing Professional Development since qualifying and continue to update my practice through taking part in training on specific issues and current developments. Some of the CPD I have completed includes:
Supporting Adults Abused in Childhood (NAPAC)
Practising Existential Therapy (Spinelli)
Brief Solution Focused Therapy (APT)
Mental Health First Aid
ASIST
Alongside my counselling work, I teach on the Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling at Cardiff & Vale College. I have previously taught counselling courses at Coleg Sir Gar (University of South Wales Trinity St David) in Ammanford and counselling modules with the Open University.
This work keeps my ethical and theoretical knowledge and my awareness of current research and developments in counselling and psychotherapy up to date. This also helps me understand the pressures of life from a wide, diverse range of people.
I have delivered many short courses in organisations and the community for people looking to manage their stress, build their confidence and develop their communication skills. If you have any queries about these courses or would like to run one within your organisation, please get in touch for a quote.
I qualified as a Supervisor through Ironmill College in 2022 and currently offer online or telephone supervision to counsellors, therapists and other helping professionals.
It's hard to get to know someone based on an internet profile. Effective counselling is based on a good relationship. Feel free to get in touch to see if you feel we can work together.
